Fun Mental & Physical Challenges Galore

Square dancing will open your mind to a whole new concept of recreational excitement. Unlike ballroom dancing, square dance DOES NOT teach fancy foot movement, instead, it teaches fancy geometric patterns of movement. In other words, it's fast-walking in geometric patterns which are led (choreographed) by the caller. We have a saying: "If can you walk - you can square dance".

Not Like The Old Days Of Hillbillies & Twangy Music
Modern recreational square dance clubs use modern upbeat
music, and most of them have a "casual" dress code. A live caller (singing choreographer) conducts the dance.

You can wear nice casual clothes or western attire..

No Dancing Experience

New dance students are instantly made to feel right at home. You will be tutored by the caller, with an experienced square dancer at your side as you walk through the movements. Nobody is singled out in training. Everybody dances in a square formation with 8 other dancers, all doing their part. A team concept.

Training
Most clubs usually hold 2 or 3 "Open House" events prior to the start of training. This gives you the opportunity to get a feel for what it's like and it gives the club members time to bring in as many new dancers as possible before the class starts.

Within 5 minutes of your first lesson, you will be dancing.
If you're not careful - you'll end up having a blast!

TRAINING TIME depends on the particular structure of each club. Some do "accelerated" training (3 to 10 days) and others do longer-term training (14 to 32 days). The days can be consecutive or spaced out weekly.

COMMITMENT
The most important rule during training is to ATTEND ALL CLASSES. A certain number of movements are taught during each class and if you miss a class - you fall behind, affecting all other dancers in your square. Go For It!! It's an activity you can enjoy worldwide year around.

NORMAL ADMISSION FEE in the north Gulf Cost area averages $4.00 to $5.00 per person per week. Training packages might be  priced separately.
